UNIVERSITY OF ZIMBABWE FACULTY OF LAW SOUTHERN AND EASTERN AFRICAN REGIONAL CENTRE FOR WOMEN’S LAW (SEARCWL) MASTERS IN WOMEN’S LAW (2015-16) Applications are invited for the Regional Masters in Women’s Law which will be offered by the Southern and Eastern African Regional Centre for Women’s Law (SEARCWL), University of Zimbabwe, in January 2015. The Masters will consist of three(3) semesters over a period of eighteen (18) months and will run as follows; First Semester January 12 to 12 June 2015 (residential UZ) Second Semester June 29 to 2 October 2015 (residential UZ) Third Semester October 29 to 8 April 2016 (Field Research and Dissertations) (Residential at UZ 8 February to 8April 2016) The first semester will cover Theories and Perspectives in Women’s Law, Research Methodologies , Human Rights and Women and the Field Research course. In the second semester candidates will choose two courses from a number of optional courses. In the third semester, candidates will carry out field research in their own home country for their dissertation and receive field supervision. The write up of the dissertation will take place at the SEARCWL, University of Zimbabwe between February and April, 2016. Qualifications A candidate must normally have a first degree in law in the second division or above. Candidates with first degrees in other disciplines may also be considered if they have achieved the appropriate academic standard and have relevant post-graduate experience in areas related to women and the law. Well qualified candidates, particularly women with young children, and persons from marginalized groups, those managing disabilities and men are especially encouraged to apply All applicants are required to submit, with their applications, a 500 word outline of how they believe the Masters in Women’s Law will assist them in their work or national outreach activities. Successful candidates are expected to make their own leave arrangements. Basic subsistence level scholarships may be provided to successful applicants. The closing date for the receipt of applications is 15 August 2014. No late applications will be accepted.
