TREE PLANTING EXERCISE AT THE SCHOOL OF LAWUniversity of Nairobi-School of law
School of Law Participates in University wide Tree Planting Programme.

The School of Law joined the rest of the University of Nairobi community in planting
thousands of tree seedlings as part of continuing celebration of the University of Nairobi
@50. The tree planting programme was held on Tuesday 18 May 2021 and was themed:
UoN@50: Partnering in Afforestation beyond the Covid 19 Pandemic. While the main
programme was held at Upper Kabete Campus and was officiated by the Vice Chancellor,
Prof Stephen Kiama, there was a concurrent exercise at the School of Law Parklands Campus
being one of the sites that received part of the seedlings on offer. The School received and
planted 500 assorted tree seedlings donated by the Equity Group Foundation and Kenya
Forest Service, including varieties such as Makamia, Bodo, and Nandi flame.
The newly elected Dean of the School of Law, Prof Winnie W. Kamau, officiated the
Parklands tree planting exercise, accompanied by representatives of Equity Bank Group(Mr
Charles Ndung’u and several others) and Kenya Forest Service(Ms Vashit Kivondo). In
attendance were also members of School of Law Management, academic and administrative,
as well as support services staff.
Dean Prof Kamau thanked the partners for the generous donation of tree seedlings and for
their presence and active participation in the tree planting exercise. Noting that the University
and the School of Law place great importance in external partnerships and networks, she
challenged the representatives of Equity Bank Group and Kenya Forest Service to deepen
their engagement with the School, especially in our efforts to green and clean the School of
Law. In response to the challenge from the representative of Kenya Forest Service, who is
also the officer in charge of Karura Forest, the Dean pledged the School’s commitment to
plant, nurture and grow the tree seedlings to maturity. As testimony of this, the Dean noted
that over 500 tree seedlings have been planted in the School since October 2019, which is
already improving the living and working environment of the School as we continue to
celebrate UoN @50, and also make our contribution towards positive and long term
responses to the Covid 19 pandemic.
